What is Safe Accommodation?

Safe Accommodation is a safe house or 'refuge', where women and children who have experienced domestic abuse can live free from fear.

Should you be placed in safe accommodation, dependant on your needs this may be in a shared home with space for many women and children, or a self-contained home.

In shared safe accommodation, there may be communal spaces like a living room, TV room, kitchen, playroom which will be shared with other residents. Our staff can support you or your children if you have additional needs. Safe Accommodation properties have their own codes of conduct for the day-to-day running of the house. These usually cover things like bedtimes for children, incoming calls and rotas for using the washing machine.

Once you are in our safe accommodation, staff will be there to help you settle in and start planning for the future. Your decisions will always be respected, and the aim is always to help you find ways to be safe – and feel safe.

Some feedback recieved from women who have been supported via safe accommodation:

“The house felt safe, was lovely and in a lovely place”

“Feeling more stable in myself now. Kids are much more settled and have a better routine”

“Appreciated the speed at which support was put in place when I needed it”
